Circuit Breakers Play Two Major Roles In Its Function:

    1) Protect Personal - such as homeowners, children, office workers and electricians. Circuit breakers protect all of us in our everyday life.

    2) Protect Equipment - Breakers cut off power to any equipment machines or appliances when they are overloaded. When the breaker trips it stays open(off) thus stopping power to the equipment or machine.

Replacing your circuit breaker when you start seeing symptoms can be difference between saving a life or saving lots of money on buying a new machine.

Symptoms of a bad Circuit breaker:

    1. Breaker won’t stay on
    2. Sizzling sound from breaker
    3. When breaker is off power is still on

Number 3 is extremely important. As an experienced electrician, troubleshooting bad breakers come quite often. When power is still on when the breaker is off is extremely dangerous. This means the inner components of the breaker have heated up so much that the breaker is no longer capable of shutting off. These were common problems with Zinzco breakers.

Zinzco breakers are obsolete they had many safety recalls that have caused fires and damaged many properties. If you have Zinzco circuit breakers in your panel, most likely your main service panel is Zinzco as well. Instead of replacing a Zinzco circuit breaker it is recommended to replace your Zinzco service panel all together.

Reasons Why Electrical Circuit Breakers Trip

    • Circuit has a dead short

    • Breaker is overloaded on amperage

    • Breakers trip around 140 degrees occurs at a circuit overload

Main Breaker Won’t Stay On Anymore

Electrical code tells us that we can only use 80% of the breakers listed amperage, this offsets the heat that is being produced. If your main circuit breaker is constantly tripping you made need a Suncoast Energy electrician to replace your main main circuit breaker replacement. If your total electrical load exceeds the breaker rating, replacing the main circuit breaker won’t help. You will need to increase the capacity of your electrical panel instead. You can not increase main breaker size unless the electrical panel rating is sized with the main breaker.
